INFOTAINMENTSYSTEMS
FOR A BETTER DRIVE EXPERIENCE

The automotive industry, one of the biggest innovation cultures, which combines technology, interface and semantics in one experience.

During my time at Opel, I supported the HMI team in several projects, from the creation of icons, wireframes, dashboard animations to the integrable UI design of the HMI infotainment systems. A new experience for me were the international participants, who gave their feedback in weekly jour fixes via telephone spider and participated wildly in PowerPoint slides.

GERMAN PRECISION - Day and Night

Infotainmentsystem 4.0 (Iconerstellung)

Mission
To design 4.0 release with day and night mode,  that drivers does not make car-drivers dazzled by the system at night. With "german precision" statement, the background, typography and UI components were adapted to day mode. Fun Fact: at the same time, I made design changes for release 3.0 had to be completed and 4.0 was planned to launch.

UserNeeds
From a quick call to order a pizza while driving home, to navigating to your vacation destination, to simply playing your favorite song. The needs follow one another in a non-linear sequence, which is why the UX must function so intuitively so that the focus remains on the road.

Challenge 1

QUICK RECOGNIZABILITY

UseCase: Adjusting the climate with your partner
In addition to navigation and music selection, particular attention was paid to the climate control use case: temperature control, seat heating, ventilation, air... All of this was to be transferred from the analog to a digital dashboard. In addition to the icons, my task was to develop a color concept in the team and define button states also for colorblind people.

UseCase: Listen to favorite music

Another important feature in the car in the infotainment area is music. In addition to usability in the interface, other important points are the pairing of devices or switching between radio, SD card and mobile device.

So I was responsible for the research, and generated the insights, for more focus on the covers for a quick recognition. In the first iterations I had to pitch how many clicks user need to to to change a song, volume or the mood.

Challenge 2

QUICK RECOGNIZABILITY

Just pressing the wrong button on your cell phone is a micro-moment wivh is horrible! During driving people have a higher stresslevel, that causes a passive-aggressive situation if the system is not working. Maybe you do the same like: pressing harder or restarting something, or using some un-nice words - that's why we made the invisible hotspots a little larger so that a crack doesn't turn into an abyss.

Challenge 3

BE INNOVATIVE
CONCEPT OF SPEED

“Speed” consists of so many components, the main one being adrenaline in the whole body. How does it feel when your heart is racing, the stimulus is in front of you and everything around you is drowned in the roar of the engine? In this concept, the number of revolutions and speed were combined in one module. The aim is to create a new driving experience, which combines horsepower in visuals
